Abstract

This paper presents a cost-effi cient method to determine the fracture behaviour of sheet metals in a wide range of stress states. The method is based on a an experimental and numerical analysis of a tensile-shear test on a modifi ed butterfl y specimen in a common tensile testing equipment. The specimen grips for the test were developed and built similar to the grips of the Arcan test and allow for various combinations of tensile and shear loading acting in the analysis zone of the specimen. The modifi cation of the specimen concerns the design of the deformation zone and helps eliminate the infl uence of specimen edges on fracture and achieve a more homogeneous deformation fi eld. With the help of the approach, the fracture behaviour of a common cold-rolled dual-phase sheet steel was characterized. Based on the obtained results, the potential of the method to deliver material data for a sheet forming simulation is discussed.
