Expansion of the machinery at the Institute of Forming Technology and Forming Machines

The machinery at IFUM is being continuously expanded in order to increase the technical possibilities and efficiency of research work. With the integration of two new systems, further steps have been taken to improve experimental conditions and increase flexibility.

Induction heating system ‘Hotbox’ - Precise heating for versatile applications

At the end of last year, the mobile induction heating system ‘Hotbox’ from the manufacturer Steremat was put into operation. This system enables the fully automated heating of semi-finished products to temperatures of up to 1200 °C in just a few seconds. Work can be carried out in an inert gas atmosphere, which minimises external influences such as oxidation during the heating process and helps to create consistent conditions in experiments in order to achieve reproducible results. In addition, the mobility of the system allows it to be used at different locations within the experimental field.

Needle marking system e10 i83 - Permanent and precise labelling

The e10 i83 needle marking system from SIC Marking GmbH was put into operation at the beginning of this year. That marking system consists of a marking head and an electronic control unit. It offers a wide range of applications for permanent labelling on metals and plastics.

The system produces razor-sharp markings, including serial numbers, logos or data matrix codes, and is characterised by high reliability and operating speed. The device can be integrated into systems with a PLC connection, allowing it to be incorporated into automated processes, making it ideal for modern research applications. With the help of this method of component tracking, Industry 4.0 approaches for drop forging can be researched in the future.
