Fire, hammer and anvil

Fire, hammer and anvil, that's how you imagine blacksmithing. And it's not all that far-fetched. Every semester, the IFUM offers students a tutorial in which the basics of this ancient craft or art are worked out together and put into practice.

Registration takes place exclusively via Stud.IP.

Blacksmithing was already practiced several thousand years ago and includes not only the forming with the help of hammer and anvil. Bending and adjusting material properties by heat treatment are also part of a blacksmith's tasks. There are hardly any limits to the dimensions of forging, from the filigree goldsmith to forging with gigantic forming machines.

At the institute's regular events, such as "Night of Mechanical Engineering" or "Here Comes the Mouse," the tutorial leaders explain the basics of forging to guests and demonstrate them on site. In most cases, participation of the guests is allowed and desired.

The events can be taken from this page.
